Tumblr Virus Diseased with Hate

It is a sad day to wake up to hearing of another virus has infected yet another tool or social platform by people who clearly get pleasure out of making the lives of others more difficult. It is even more disgusting to learn that the virus is meant to hack accounts and spread hatred, such as the Tumblr virus has done.

Everyone has their right to freedom of speech; however, stealing the voices of others to spread words of hate is not only offensive but is an offense in my opinion against human rights. The majority of us collaborate online to interact, socialize, network and curate content together to be seen by the masses, to perhaps provide entertainment, education or to provoke thought. Most of us using social networks do so in a polite positive way and in fact apply many of our social norms online as we would offline. Perhaps it is due to the way our parents raised us, maybe it is out of respect of another human life sitting on the other end of the screen or it could even be just human decency.

According to Pocket-Lint, many Tumblr Accounts were attacked by a virus that was created and spread by an organization that is quote “a deeply racist anti-blogging and internet trolling organization”. This despicable group of people decided to make a choice to spread racial slurs and derogatory remarks regarding sexuality.  This is an unfortunate incident where close-minded people wreak havoc on the innocent, bullying their way through a virus to share words of abhorrence that they clearly know would not have gone viral otherwise.

People are generally good, and unfortunately good people will always be attacked by evil.

Tumblr is said to taking action on this horrific breach of conduct but until then, perhaps it is a good idea to remain off of Tumblr until this issue is fixed since the virus is booby-trapped to send from clicking and closing. It is also not the type of content you will want to view, since words can be just as damaging as images.

Though I express my personal opinion upon this, I add it as a reminder that sick people who we all know exist will at times come out of the darkness to try and ruin our day or our social experience and instead of allowing the fear to overpower you, as we know viruses are nasty to our electronic friends, instead remain elsewhere for the time being and do not give the power to those who try to strip us from ours.
