And as to whether a social media friend is really a friend?  I just heard a keynote delivered by Clay Shirky at the Web 2.0 conference, and he was careful to make a distinction between friends and &quot;friends&quot; (he made the gesture for the quote marks). That&#039;s how I look at it, too!
