Social Media Monuments: Is Zuckerberg the New Steve Jobs?
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has announced that its shares will be priced at $28 to $35 which will put the company’s worth as high as $95 billion. Since the creation of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has become a pivotal figure within the social media community. The young philanthropist has quickly become one of the richest men in the world. On the low end of the price range, that would make him $846 million richer. On the high end, he would net $1.05 billion.
Will Zuckerberg have the same impact on the social media front as Steve Jobs had on technology with Apple? Zuckerberg regularly challenges the norm of social media technology and is a regular member of the internet community, but will he ever obtain the level of clout that Steve Jobs has?
Jobs was considered during his life to be a visionary and a pioneer while acting as CEO of Apple, bringing the world the iPhone and the capability to do anything from the palm of your hand. Though Jobs’ had shares with Apple, his salary with Apple was only $1 which makes Zuckerberg’s millionaire paycheck seem unreasonably high. Even after his death, Jobs is making an impact on the world with charity work; Apple has been the largest contributor to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria since 1997.
Zuckerberg, along with Bill Gates and Warren Buffet agreed to donate half of their salaries to charity. Though Zuckerberg’s generosity is recognized, is he at all the same level as Jobs once was? Jobs was a monument in the technological age that will shadow future Zuckerbergs without a doubt but is it possible for this young billionaire to establish himself among the greats?
