The narrative that we’ll see from Fox News and other outlets over the next few days is that Marco Rubio is the Republican party’s best chance against Donald Trump. The reality is that support for Rubio is the fastest path for a Trump nomination. Sadly, the “powers that be” are well aware of this but are going with their narrative anyway.
The narrative for months has been that candidates are waiting for Donald Trump and Ben Carson to drop their foolish incursion into politics. Once that happened, we could see where the cards land. Now that it’s certain that Trump isn’t dropping out, we should call for all of the lesser candidates to drop out and for the two Cuban American candidates to form a Voltron ticket.
We are, by our nature, worldly people. I once believed that people in the past were less worldly, but the more I read the more I realize that things shift but they don’t really change. The adversary has planted a seed of worldliness that grows like a weed through society and spreads through our hearts. Fighting against the urges can be challenging even for those who are cognizant of it.
The Republicans have shown decorum in not attacking Marco Rubio’s personal financial follies and have, for the most part, avoided discussing his complete lack of anything substantial achieved in his two decades in politics. The Democrats will not have the same decorum and they will humiliate his utter ineffectiveness as a politician.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about what Donald Trump and Ted Cruz truly stand for as potential Presidents. Trump gets all of the attention from the media and his narrative is painted in colors that are often out of alignment with reality. We thought we’d take our figurative labeling machine and describe the candidates as they truly are.
In politics, credibility is arguably the most important trait that people look for in a candidate. They might rate other issues higher, but the reality is that all of the other issues have to be seen through the lens of whether or not the voter believes a candidate is telling the truth. This is what has been fueling the Rubio/Trump tag teaming on Ted Cruz by repeatedly calling him a liar.
To his fans, Donald Trump can do no wrong. To discerning voters who look at policies, history, and realities that go beyond showmanship and a sales pitch, it’ll take more than ambitious claims and unhinged attacks to demonstrate his worthiness of being made the most powerful person on the planet. We need to know that he’s going to deliver on what he promises.
As the GOP nomination race reaches its hottest points, now is the time for his faithful supporters to do everything we can to help. That means voting and assisting others with their votes. That means educating; in a society that craves bite-sized bits of information, the general voting body lacks the knowledge to vote appropriately. It means donating; the biggest problem that previous conservatives have had is that they ran out of money to operate their campaigns. Most importantly, it means acting.
The world of politics is one big dirty game when things are normal. When a man like Donald Trump is inserted into the equation, it turns into a combination of mud wrestling and a bloodbath. There are always casualties when Trump gets involved in anything. In his run for President, the casualties are truth, decency, and American values.
The United States is in the most precarious position it has been in since the Vietnam War. We witnessed the degradation from the inside being perpetrated by the forces of the left that could have destroyed the Republic if Ronald Reagan had not been elected in 1980. Today, we’re seeing a different type of degradation that is being initiated from the top rather than the grassroots. Today, we need another man like Reagan, a conservative who is willing to stand up to the corruption that has befallen the nation at every level.
