You bring up some good points about the benefits of the real time web, but it seems there is so much more to it than following trends. Real time web publication and tracking can mobilize people behind a cause in hours instead of days or weeks, as is currently the case with the Haiti disaster. There is much more to the internet than the top 100 posts, or the most recent posts. Real time publication is putting more and more information out there for consumption, as users we need to adapt and learn better ways of finding the information we're looking for, rather than searching for the coolest, latest thing.

A helpful post and thank you for sharing.
