How do I Optimize my Google Places Listing?
1. You need to ensure that your business listing is scattered across the web, ones that match your Google Places information will be the most effective.
Google crawls a variety of sites to search for other sites you have shared your listing on, the more the better, since your ranking score on Google will increase dependant on its findings.
2. Add your listings manually (not recommended unless you are an SEO specialist)
3. Use a vendor to optimize your overall SEO
4. Find sites that will list you across the web. (Remembering your Social Networking sites too)
5. Use sites for your business that enable reviews, such as Yelp, CitySearch and others to increase your listing. The reviews that include the name of your business will enhance Google’s efforts in finding it.
In addition, a great way to include your Social Media sites, since people usually post a review attached to a username that already has your business’s name associated to it.
6. Drive traffic, clean up and add SEO to your website to increase your Google Places ranking. This means you need to use other sites (social networks, blogs) and any other source to link back to your website. Update your website and add some basic SEO to help Google properly place you.
The better your site is viewed across the Internet and the more traffic you bring to your listed website, the better your Google Places ranking will be. Be mindful of your link back’s, the higher the quality of the website the better it is for your business’ listing.
If you are already on Google Places or brand new to it, try utilizing the above recommendations and see if your business will be better optimized within local search.

White pages, yellow pages, phone book what are those? My teenage kids have never used them.
I have been very happy with my Google Places listing. It works. I have been getting lots of impressions.
Google is always making a way in which they can expand their services for the comfort of it’s users. They are now leading in providing relevant information to users.
But Google doesn’t stop there because they’re still up for more.
Google is now creating the Google maps to widen it’s services. This Google maps will help users to locate a certain business establishment in a map. On the other hand, they are allowing businesses to be listed for free. So, this is a free advertising opportunity for the businesses while widening it’s services.
Great article. I will be sharing this with all my friends who have local businesses. I’ll probably also write a review for them too.
Great way for businesses to get themselves out there especially if they’re up and coming. I hardly use the white pages or yellow pages as it is now so the internet is my go to source when finding a place online.
I often use google map to locate some shops and local business in our area. And you’re right, adding one’s business to Google Places could make your business visible to everyone in the world.
Google places is a great type of white pages. But you need to be on an Internet yellow page site such as dexknows.com or yellow pages.com in order for your listing on google maps to be optimized. People use the phone book when searching for local types of businesses it is still the easiest way to find a business. Google maps is the new white pages. If you want customers who are looking for a business and they have no name in mind then you need google ad words or yes the yellow pages.
A yellow page rep from a phone company type of book can show you call reports of who is calling you from your yellow page ad. My ad gets a lot of calls and many as well that go to my web site from the print yellow page ad. Keep in mind most of us do not care about a teenager calling us we want 35 years and older.
Good luck it is tough out there but keeping an open mind can help you make more money.
