Who says granny can’t play games too? Well, no one, but still, we rarely think of grandpa or grandma playing games online. In fact, we rarely think of the elderly even knowing how to use the internet, or even the computer. But senior online gaming is quickly growing.
Over a quarter of online gamers are over the age of 50. Not only are they playing, but they are playing a lot. Some grannys are playing over an hour a week. Not to mention said gaming can have physical and mental benefits for seniors.
Keeping the mind sharp and socializing are just a few of the benefits that online gaming can provide for senior citizens. However, it can get out of control. Just like many other fun things, addiction can creep in. It has even been found that 1 in 5 women have left a husband or boyfriend due to neglect linked to social gaming.

This is a really nice infographics with lots of interesting data. I would have never said that over a quarter of gamers are people over the age of 50 and that the ‘senior gaming community’ is still more and more spreading. Regarding the data, it’s really interesting that Zynga’s apps have 221 921 018 Monthly Active Users, whereas Research In Motion Ltd., which is the second Facebook developer in terms of Monthly Active Users, has just 58 400 000 Monthly Active Users – data taken from here http://www.socialbakers.com/facebook-apps-and-developers/ That means that Zynga has 3.8x more Monthly Active Users than the second best Facebook developer and that is saying a lot.
I don’t think gaming can cure loneliness, it is human relationship does that.
