Page Owners: Save your Discussions from Your Facebook Page Before it’s too Late!

Facebook Discussions Tab

Since the early days, Facebook page owners had the possibility to add a Discussions tab to their Facebook page. At some point, over 55 Million users were using this tab to talk, share their points of view, give feedback, and connect with each other. Then Facebook changed the layout of the pages, which lead to a drop in traffic, but the tab is still widely used today: 22 Million users per month use this tab.

This popular Discussions tab is however going away on October 31st. Facebook displayed early October this message to page owners:

“We’re Making Pages Better”

We want to make sure the tools you use to manage your page are as effective as possible. Here’s an update that may affect how you connect with your audience:

Reviews and Discussions: The best way to encourage conversation and feedback is through posts and comments on your Wall. To focus on this, we’ll be removing the Reviews and Discussions apps on October 31st. Learn More

Facebook now wants to concentrate all the interactions on the wall. Although the wall is well designed and allows users to see fresh content in real-time, it is not always the ideal tool.

Many page owners need the ability to hold long running discussions on their page. The wall cannot be used for that efficiently as the posts get buried very quickly and it is not easy to find a specific discussion you might be looking for.

Finding a replacement for the discussions tab is the first concern that some page admins will have, but an even bigger concern is saving all the valuable discussions they might have accumulated over the course of years on the discussions tab. Facebook is not offering a way to back them up.

Forum for pagesConscious of those issues, we have built a free Facebook Application called Forum for Pages in order to offer a solution for page owners to keep the discussions on their Facebook pages. The application is easy to use, you need to install it from this page: http://www.facebook.com/202980683107053, then you can click the “Import Existing Discussions” if you want to save the discussions from the soon gone Facebook Discussions tab.

Many applications already use our solution (artists, businesses…) in order to keep all their existing discussions from fans/customers. If you’re interested, you can check and see how it looks on the Tetris game page (where they had more than 3,600 discussions to backup):

Here are the features we are offering today:

  • Threaded discussions
  • Save and import all your existing discussions from the Facebook discussions tab (deprecated on October 31st)
  • Users never leave the page where the Forum tab is installed
  • Deep linking
  • Moderators can delete a post or the entire topic, lock a topic or make a topic sticky
  • Page owners can post as the page

The importation will no longer be possible after October 31st, so we encourage everyone to replace the Discussions tab with Forum for pages before it’s too late!

8-20-2012 The scum running Facebook have really hit a new low, even for them, in both maliciousness and incompetence. The screenshots documenting this recent series of events are at http://www.facebookcensorship.com It really will take a class action lawsuit to get them cleaned up.

Facebook keeps hitting new lows even for them.

Hi there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where
I could locate a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having problems finding one?

    Thanks a lot!
