In light of all the privacy issues with Facebook recently, one has to question the outcry over privacy, or lack thereof, when a large demographic are caught with their pants down (pun intended) updating their social networks while using the facilities.

Young adults ages 18-24 are the primary culprits in this alleged activity, making up 33% of people that admit to Tweeting or Facebooking while on the crapper. And, believe it or not, men & women alike are just as prone to social updating in the bathroom. A lot of this is due to the increasing popularity of smart phones and the social apps you can download to maintain your social profiles. A whopping 63% of the growth in overall time spent using social media is due to mobile apps and mobile web usage.

It seems to have slipped the minds of people just what it is they’re doing in the bathroom in the first place. So, allow us to bring you up to speed. You’re relieving yourselves of bodily waste, to put it mildly. It’s no wonder that 1 in 6 cell phones has been found to have fecal matter on them, and that cell phones harbor about 500 times more germs than a toilet seat.

Pretty disgusting, eh? Check out this infographic from Emergency Plumber to find out more gruesome details on this growing trend.
